At Home, Smoke Still Rules for NBBQA Members
According to the 2012 NBBQA Membership Survey, smoky goodness is still king for our members. Whether it’s from wood, charcoal or pellets, almost two-thirds prefer to bring the smoke when cooking at home.
Statistics from the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association indicate that gas grills have outsold charcoal grills since the mid-90′s and currently make up 57% of all grill and smoker shipments in North America. However, charcoal continues to be quite popular with many NBBQA members; 44% percent use it as their primary heating source when at home. Wood even edges out gas for second place. Electric grills, however, barely register with either our members or the general public. According to Weber’s 2011 GrillWatch Survey™, only 4% of Americans even own an outdoor electric grill-a figure in line with our own survey results.
